Cape Town: Dutch Treat

Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, is considered by many to be the most beautiful city on earth. The city sits between the overhanging cliffs of the sea and the magnificent Table Mountain, allowing visitors to feel as if they have entered a magical oasis in the desert.

The Castle of Good Hope is one of Cape Town's most interesting architectural attractions. Built from 16666 to 1679, the castle served as a Dutch defense fort and is the oldest surviving building in South Africa. Fortunately, the castle has been well maintained and is still in use today. The South African Defense Force currently uses the Castle of good Hope as its headquarters. Visitors to the castle will get to see the beautiful slate stones, carries from Robben Island, which form the castle walls.

Robben Island is also a very important stop for Cape Town tourists. The island, now a memorial, was used as a prison from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Prisoners from South Africa and neighboring countries, some as far away as Indonesia, were imprisoned here. Robben Island is famous for being the prison where Nelson Mandela was held during the Apartheid era. Visitors to the island will have the honor of visiting his cell along with the rest of the prison complex.

Cape Town is a city with a rich history. The people of Cape Town are proud of their home and will gladly welcome visitors and share their culture and traditions with them.
